The Groupement des Habitant.e.s de Vermont GHV in a few words

Daniel Bourquin
Co-founderOur history since 1979
The Groupement des Habitant.e.s de Vermont (GHV) was formed to preserve Vermont Park and discourage real estate initiatives. In 1979, it opposed the construction of an underground parking lot at the base of Vermont Tower. These works would have required cutting down 25 trees in the small woodland near the tower. The administrative procedures lasted several years, and the developers eventually abandoned their project.
Later, in the 1990s, the City of Geneva wanted to build a temporary school in the park. Residents feared that the temporary structure would become permanent and that construction would encroach upon the vegetation. The Groupement des Habitant.e.s de Vermont (GHV) initiated a referendum against this project and won with 60% of the votes. Since 2001, Vermont Park has been classified as a green area, ensuring a certain level of protection
